The European Lawyers Foundation ran a project in Indonesia, financed by the International Bar Association (IBA). Its main goal, in collaboration with the Indonesian Bar Association (PERADI), was to train Indonesian lawyers on two issues: assistance for local lawyers arising out of the globalisation of legal services; and professional ethics. The project started in December 2019 when representatives of the IBA, PERADI and ELF met together to discuss the topics of the conference, the speakers, etc. The training was expected to take place over a day and a half in March 2020, but it had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The conference finally took place on 14 June 2021 through a hybrid event, in which Indonesian speakers and some local participants could attend in person, while other local lawyers, the international speakers and some participants from outside Indonesia (including from South Korea, Bangladesh, China, Timor Leste, Malaysia and United Arab Emirates) participated online. Over 280 lawyers were registered for the conference.
