EU sanctions – helping EU lawyers navigate the Russian sanctions’ packages

This webinar, organised by the European Lawyers Foundation and the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was held on 15 June 2022. It attracted over 700 participants from many Member States, and even beyond the EU. 

After a welcome from the CCBE President, there were speakers from the European Commission’s Directorate-General of Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (FISMA) – they were senior officials responsible for the Commission’s Russian sanctions package. They were followed by two sessions, one on the role of lawyers in dealing with EU sanctions, and a second on the role of bars and law societies in the same field.

There was a lively question and answer session. Subsequently, written responses given by the European Commission speakers to 29 questions on lawyers and sanctions were published as a separate document.
