European asylum and immigration: what European lawyers need to know
On 26 May 2025, the European Lawyers Foundation and the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) organised a webinar on ‘European asylum and immigration: what European lawyers need to know’.
Among the issues addressed during the webinar, there was first a presentation from a representative of the EU Fundament Rights Agency who gave an overview of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights’ provisions in relation to asylum and immigration. This was followed by a presentation from the relevant senior official from the European Commission on the EU’s New Pact on Asylum and Migration. These sessions were followed by further presentations about the Council of Europe’s legal system for regulating asylum and Immigration: instruments and case law (presented by an official of the UN Refugee Agency); and one on legal assistance to immigrants and asylum seekers (presented by the Chair of the CCBE’s Migration Committee).
