The Foundation’s Secretariat is responsible for the Foundation’s day-to-day business. It is composed of people with knowledge of both the legal profession and project management. The Secretariat is composed of a Managing Director, a Project Manager and a Senior Project Counsel.


Alonso Hernandez-Pinzon is the ELF’s Managing Director. He holds a degree in Law from the University Autonoma of Madrid where he also received an LL.M. in International Public Law and EU Law. He holds a Masters in Diplomacy and International Relations from the Spanish Diplomatic School and has taken postgraduate and executive education in academic centers such as Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School. He is a qualified lawyer registered with the Madrid Bar.


Vasileios Stathopoulos has previously worked as a project assistant at the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) and in EU institutions including the European Parliament and the European Economic and Social Committee. He holds two master’s degrees in European Law and International Relations and two bachelor’s degrees in Law and International & European Studies. Vasileios is a qualified lawyer at the Athens Bar Association.


Jonathan Goldsmith is the ELF’s Senior Counsel in European and international legal services, working as an expert on numerous funded projects aimed at improving the administration of justice in the EU and world-wide. He previously served as the Secretary General of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) from 2001 to 2015. He is an English Solicitor and Member of the Council of the Law Society of England and Wales.
