Jani Trias Arraut is a Spanish lawyer who specialises in commercial and civil law. He is President of the Mediterranean Commission of the Federation of European Bars, and a member of the Steering Committee of the Barcelona Bar in charge of international affairs. He is also a council member of the International Bar Association representing the Barcelona Bar. Jani Trias has supported ELF for more than two years in different projects and has made a major contribution to the ELF’s project on Venezuela.
Alfredo Romero is the Executive Director of Foro Penal Venezolano (FPV), a Venezuelan NGO which was the winner of the 2014 Department of State Human Rights Defender Award and Human Rights Award of the Embassy of Canada in Caracas. He was Research fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, Harvard University.
FPV provides assistance to victims of arbitrary detentions, torture and cruel treatment since 2002, and counts on 200 volunteer lawyers and more than 1,000 volunteer activists. Romero has registered cases and filed actions for violations of human rights at the Inter American Commission for Human Rights (OAS) and the UN Human Rights entities. He is also a member of the Global Agenda Council on Justice of the World Economic Forum.
Romero is a Professor of Public Law at Universidad Central de Venezuela and the author of articles and books about public and constitutional law, human rights and crimes against humanity. He holds a Law degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, Caracas, and MA from Georgetown University, and an LLM from London School of Economics.
